International Students
The program of History and Philosophy of Science within the School of Philosophy, Anthropology and Social Inquiry is a federation which brings together teaching and research in
- the history of science and medicine
- the philosophy of science
- the sociology of science and technology
- social theory, and
- computer applications.
This unique mix of literacies encourages a diverse and dynamic student community and over the years we have welcomed students from countries such as Korea, China, Malaysia, Colombia, Italy, Canada, Germany, the U.K. and the U.S.A. into the social and intellectual life of the school. The School of Philosophy, Anthropology and Social Inquiry offers students a creative and unique learning environment that bridges the divide between science and the humanities. Most subjects and courses are available through both the Arts and the Science Faculties.
In addition to our subjects and courses, there are weekly seminar programs and monthly symposia on areas of special interest to staff and students. The postgraduate associations for History and Philosophy of Science, History and Philosophy of Science Postgraduate Association (HPSP) and Social Theory, Social Theory Postgraduate Association (STPA) organize regular academic and social events, including a fortnightly postgraduate seminar, and film nights. Together with academic staff, they host the end of year Christmas barbecue.
Eminent scholars frequently visit the program to give seminars and to lecture, and the school is further strengthened by its links with the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre and Museum Victoria.
