Honours
Prerequisites
The minimum entry requirement for development studies honours is completion of all the requirements for the BA, with a major in development studies and an average grade over the second/third year subjects within the major equivalent to at least an H2A (75%). It is not possible to complete honours in development studies on a part time basis. Students must complete the honours year full-time over two consecutive semesters of study.
Application procedure
Applications for honours entry are made via the University of Melbourne on-line application system.
After submitting application details via the web, your application must be printed and lodged, with any necessary attachments, at the Faculty of Arts Office preferably by 31 October (for semester one entry) or 31 May (for semester two entry). However please note that late applications until the beginning of semester may be considered.
For further details go to: Arts Faculty Honours.
Please also note that while mid-year entry is possible, it is not recommended for the development studies honours program.
If you are offered a place, you will be sent a research proposal form that must be submitted before December 14th.
Please contact the Development Studies Honours coordinator, Dr Hans Baer, regarding specific queries about our honours program.
Course requirements
See the Course and Subject Catalogue for Development studies Honours and Combined Honours course requirements.
Students may be able to take another fourth-year or fifth-year level subject not listed above with the permission of the honours coordinator and subject coordinator.
Students intending to do a combined honours in development and another area of study should consult the Development Studies Course Co-ordinator about structuring their course.
Part-time enrolment
It is not possible to complete honours in development studies on a part time basis. Students must complete the honours year full-time over two consecutive semesters of study; however a compulsory component of the course is run in intensive mode in February (see Course requirements).
